What is the best response to the 'What are your weaknesses' question in a job interview?
Q. I don't want to sound arrogant and say I don't have any, but I don't want to give a list of negative points either...
Asked by Nicki B - Thu Nov 6 17:13:22 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Turn it around so that your weakness is not really that bad. hard. Ex: I tend to pick up other people's slack, and instead of confronting them on it, I just work harder to get my job done and then do what I can for them. That's what I've always used, because one its true, and two its not really a negative. I don't like confrontation, and I do work hard. Might not work too well if you are going for a management position, or one where you need confrontation.

I need help with the what are your strengths and weaknesses job interview question. I want to sound original!?
Q. The interview is for a job doing customer services at a car sales place. It focuses on organization and people skills. I don't want to give them a generic answer they'll be hearing all day. Please help!

A. I think the post I referenced will help you a lot...it starts with this: "Here's a five-step response strategy for this question: 1. Highlight your strengths for the position. 2. Mention a new skill or area in which you are not yet as strong as you'd like to be (don't use the word "weakness."). 3. Outline what you're doing to master the new skill and overcome your so-called "weakness." 4. Describe how this new skill will improve your value to the company. 5. Finish with a question that will redirect the interview back to your real strengths." It finishes with examples of how you can bring it all together. I'm sure if you work on this it will sound original...Good luck!

A. Both have provide you with some great tips, I would add you can do a practise interview and get someone to ask you the type of questions you feel they may ask, most will ask the same for all types of jobs, I always had a problem with this one. "What is your biggest weakness or fault in the job", I was a chef, and for me I could get to involved and a bit overwrought, spending more time doing the others jobs and picking up,even helping were I should not have. sometimes leaving my own duties not in control. Think about previous interviews and there questions, most places will not get into the involved product or specific questions related to the job in most cases until the second interview and when the set up a training program/schedule.

A. This question takes many guises. It may be phased like this for example: What qualities do you see in others which you would like to develop in yourself? Strengths should be easy enough to think about (keep the position in mind). Weaknesses can be more difficult but you should try to think of something that perhaps you have recognized as being a weakness but have worked to overcome. For example: I d like to be naturally organized, like my manager. She doesn t have to try. But to help me, I use to-do lists and a diary so I can keep a track of where I am . Don't be too negative about your weaknesses. And by the way, it's always safer to identify a lack of experience or skill than a shortcoming in your personality, because an… [cont.]

Whats a good answer for the interview question" What are your weaknesses?"?
Q. This is for a Best Buy interview with the GM tomorrow.I've seen that a lot of ppl use the perfectionist thing but I'm not a perfectionist. Maybe something around the lines of overthinking too much? idk or putting my thoughts into words?? Help! I've always had trouble with this question.

A. This question is designed to test your critical thinking and skills under pressure. If you say I eat when I'm nervous that probably isn't too good of an answer. You gotta think up something that will relate well to the job your applying for. Like "sometimes I get too caught up in getting everyone on board for an idea or new project," for a leadership or management position. You could be more assertive and say that, "My weakness is that I absolutely insist upon making consensus decisions with those I work with for a management position. If it's customer service you could say that your "weakness is a tendency to remember everyone's names and that this causes people to interact with you and can some times get in the way of my efficiency, but… [cont.]

How do you answer that classic question in a job interview: "What are your weaknesses?"?
Q. I'm actually filling out an employment application and the question asks: "What are your weaknesses and what are you doing to improve them?" This is a very, very tricky question and I'm just not sure how to answer it. Hiring managers love to use this question to trap you into giving out information that you wouldn't normally discuss. A. This is like the question - Have you stopped beating your wife? No matter how it is answered you are in trouble. Realistically they are more interested in how you answer than the answer itself. You could answer something like this: "At another job I formerly had I saw some people who were really lazy and it made me angry to see that when I was working so hard." Or "I was at a job where one of my coworkers was a relative of an upper level manager and they were treated differently than other workers. I guess that life is not always fair but it made me sad and angry that this was going on." How would you answer the question "What are your strengths and weaknesses" for an internship interview?
Q. I have an interview tomorrow and they always seem to ask this question and I never really know how to answer it. How would all of you answer it? Or how would you identify your weaknesses so that you CAN answer it?
Asked by givergirl12 - Tue Dec 15 22:02:41 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Strengths are usually the easiest to answer. Think of general abilities you have, especially things other people have told you about. For instance, that you are a good listener, you are creative, you work well under pressure, etc. Then, for each strength, come up with a little story about a time where you demonstrated that strength. That makes it more credible when you say you have a strength. The weaknesses are a bit trickier. Ideally, they should be something that is only a weakness in certain situation, but not in others. For instance, maybe you spend too much time getting every detail right; you are too much of a perfectionist. This can be a weakness if you need to get things done very quickly, and precision isn't really needed.… [cont.]

A. It's better to identify areas where you would like to improve and state that. Although state how you would like or are doing to improve your weak area. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. Do not be afraid to state what they are. Just be honest.

I got so fed up with these types of questions at that interview I told him - I see myself in your position, because I am going to take it from you. A. I used to answer this question by saying that I didn't like to sit around doing nothing and always have to find something to do. "...I'm indifferent to emotional criticism.", "I am unaffected by any display of anger from coworkers and clients." This sounds cold-hearted and I wouldn't believe that it's true. "I must be presented the cold, hard facts before realizing the graveness of a problem." I'm not sure that I would go with this. It sounds like you couldn't figure out a problem before you were told about it.

A. Always answer this question with something that they already know about you hear are a few examples If you are younger I would say 25 or below say I feel my age is my biggest weakness because I feel I am sometimes not taken as serious and as the hard worker that I am, but the truth is I am a very fast learner and do everything I do to the best of my ability, if that is not good enough I try even harder. Use a weakness they can see of your resume or application but never leave the question on a negitave turn it into a stregth!
