Behavior, or behaviour (see American and British spelling differences), refers to the actions of an organism or system, usually in relation to its environment, which includes the other organisms or systems around as well as the physical environment. It is the response of the organism or system to various stimuli or inputs, whether internal or external, conscious or subconscious, overt or covert, and voluntary or involuntary.

Biology

In humans, behavior is believed to be controlled primarily by the endocrine system and the nervous system. Thus, it is most often believed that the complexity of the behavior of an organism is related to the complexity of its nervous system. Generally, organisms with complex nervous systems have a greater capacity to learn new responses and thus adjust their behavior. Behaviors can be either innate or learned. However, current research in the Human Microbiome Project points towards a possibility that human behavior may be controlled by the composition of the microbe population within a human body.

More generally, behavior can be regarded as any action of an organism that changes its relationship to its environment. Behavior provides outputs from the organism to the environment.

How long after neutering (male dog) will you start to see difference in behaviour?
Q. Does it take a couple of weeks after neutering a male dog to see the difference in his behaviour. Does it take time for testosterone to leave the system of a dog? What things will I see different in his behaviour?

A. Castration is NOT brain surgery! training alters behavior-not scalpels-there's no magic knife! Testosterone dissipates for months.

What effect is modern technology having on human behaviour?
Q. Today science and modern technology is playing a major role in the way we behave but is it for the better or worse? For example if you're a grub or crim and get caught on camera then everyone will see what you have done and if you go out and commit a crime then you may leave your DNA behind for the cops to find. So how are these changes brought about by modern technology shaping our behaviour and how we manage to live our lives these days?

A. Modern technology has made life more complicated, it has eliminated jobs, caused the cost of living to skyrocket, and caused people to become more distant and greedy, yet on the other hand some aspects of it are good like you said. It is easier to find criminals and bring them to justice, there is much equipment in the medical community that saves lives. I suppose it all depends on the individual, because each individual experiences different ups and downs created by technology. I feel for the most part technology has destroyed our moral values in society, people care more about whether or not they can pay their cell phone bill than they do about whether their neighbors are going hungry. It wasn't always like that. People used to value… [cont.]

A. Our disposition is based upon experiences that are situational and random in nature. We don't take everything all in at once; which is one reason we dream in deep sleep. Through the processing of information we establish reasoning for events based upon how we interpret our experiences. The process influences our behavior based upon what we think of our self and how we perceive what others think of us.
