Why do Mountain Ash Eucalypt Trees shed their bark?
Q. The bark seems to be stringing off the tree about halfway up, revealing a smooth white trunk underneath.. why??
Asked by naiwiboo - Wed Dec 5 07:32:40 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Eucalyptus have oils in their bark that are flammable. They need fire to open up their fruits when they are ready to disperse seed. They will shed their bark which creates a flammable fuel bed, hoping a fire will come by and rip it up. In their natural environment, fire is common.
