What advice could you give to a middle-aged woman traveling alone?
Q. Soon it will be the 90th anniversary of my father's birth. I would like to take a road trip to visit his hometown around that time. It will be approx. 230 miles to go there (one way - from east-central New York to central Pennsylvania, USA). I will likely be traveling by myself. I have no credit or debit card. I would like some advice on what accommodations would be the best under these circumstances and any other relevant advice (go on toll roads, take backroads, etc). Thanks.

A. Well the first thing is to get a credit card. No decent hotel is going to allow you to check in without one. If you do not require hotel accomodations a CC is still a good idea for road issues. I suppose you could join AAA auto club just in case. just make sure your car is in good repair. While this is not a particularly long distance, you do not want to break down. If you must carry cash only, make sure you have extra. A couple $100 bills stashed for emergency is a good plan.
