From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Society or human society is the manner or condition in which the members of a community live together for their mutual benefit. By extension, society denotes the people of a region or country, sometimes even the world, taken as a whole. Used in the sense of an association, a society is a body of individuals outlined by the bounds of functional interdependence, possibly comprising characteristics such as national or cultural identity, social solidarity, language or hierarchical organization. Human societies are characterized by patterns of relationships between individuals sharing a distinctive culture and institutions. Like other communities or groups, a society allows its members to achieve needs or wishes they could not fulfill alone. A society, however, may be ontologically independent of, and utterly irreducible to, the qualities of constituent individuals; it may act to oppress. The urbanization and rationalization inherent in some, particularly Western capitalist, societies, has been associated with feelings of isolation and social "anomie". More broadly, a society is an economic, social or industrial infrastructure, made up of a varied collection of individuals. Members of a society may be from different ethnic groups. A society may be a particular ethnic group, such as the Saxons; a nation state, such as Bhutan; a broader cultural group, such as a Western society. The word society may also refer to an organized voluntary association of people for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, patriotic, or other purposes. A "society" may even, though more by means of metaphor, refer to a social organism such as an ant colony. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License How much does society actually condition us and civilize us? Q. Without society to condition us do you expect we would be no different than animals in our tendencies. What about in respect to creating laws and "order"? Asked by Dr. Molecule - Thu Mar 19 20:21:05 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. society conditions us from our parents or whoever brought you up,but not everybody abides by the same conditioning, you have oulaws, predators and a lot of other sick people who set their own rules without regard for their fellow man,our laws only help so much, take for instant murder,if someone murders someone you love and they get the death penalty you are sill cheated out of you love one, they don't care (most hard core criminals, watch prison life on tv) these scumbags have an excuse for everything,i believe you are a good person because of your quest for a supreme being! you have a soul! and that is where our laws came from the ten commmandments, well i tried to answer your question and it was a very good question good night! Answered by abaabbaa2000 - Thu Mar 19 20:31:52 2009 What does the humane society do with cats? Q. When you bring in pets to the humane society, do they keep them all or put them to sleep or what? Is there someone else to call about stray cats? Asked by Tony B - Wed Nov 5 23:53:19 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. every shelter is different with its own policies, be it a donation-run humane society, a govt-run animal control or any other animal shelter. unless they specify that they are a no-kill shelter, then many cats not adopted are euthanized. (thing is, even many no-kill shelters euthanize as well.) how much time they are given depends on the facility, how full they are & the demand for their cage space, the animals involved & how healthy they are (physically and mentally). most shelters keep cats anywhere from three days to several months. problem with cats is that a simple disease like an upper respiratory can mean certain death in a shelter...and these diseases are so easily transmitted, many cats don't get much of a chance for adoption… [cont.] Answered by sleepycatz1972 - Thu Nov 6 00:27:52 2008 How important are Psychologists to society?
Q. I mean to say can society still function well without the study of Psychology? What are the top reasons why we need it? Or what about other kinds of "soft science" in general? Isn't it more important to know about Quantum Physics, Bioengineering, etc than why people interact the way they do? Asked by Real Man - Mon Aug 24 18:29:18 2009 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments A. Psychology is useful, but only insofar as it is grounded in reality. Without a thorough knowledge of quantum physics, one's reality is dictated by one's limited senses and the deluded hypotheses one constructs about how things work, based on one's limited senses. It's like Plato's analogy of a man who lives his life in a cave and interprets the world by the shadows he sees cast on the wall by a fire. Since most everyone, including psychologists, are rooted in what I call a Newtonian consciousness, which is based on an outdated and failed theory, then there is likely to be a misunderstanding of why one suffers. The core of psychology is to understand brain chemistry, human behavior, mental disorder, sources of mental anguish, etc. and to… [cont.] Answered by eldelfinalegre - Mon Aug 24 22:02:41 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "society" Quotes about society.
