How can I train our German Shepherd Dog and Old English Sheep Dog to quit running our fence line?
Q. We have a German Shepherd and an old English Sheep Dog that get overly excited when things (primarily other dogs) come close to the fence line. The GSD is 14 months and the OES is 16 months. How can we train them not to bark crazily and run the line like heathens when other dogs come around? We are first time dog owners.

A. Hi! You need a full and proven dog training program. "SitStayFetch" is one of the most popular dog training products on the market written by Daniel Stevens, an experienced dog trainer, for every dog owners who know that the experience of training their dog has or will continue to establish a better relationship with their four legs friend. First when I read SitStayFetch ebook, I was surprised at lots of information has been covered. The 186 page book is broken down into different sections step-by-step, each one dealing with a different aspect of dog ownership. SitStayFetch starts from a basic that dog owner should know. For instance, things to consider before adopting a dog, choosing the right breed, dealing with breeders, the secrets… [cont.]

How to get my 2yr old male Old English bull dog to get along with a new 4month old female Great Dane.?
Q. I have three dogs a male 2yr old Old English Bulldog a male 2yr old Great Dane and a 4month Old female Great Dane. The two great danes get along fine as do the 2yr old male dane and the 2yr old male bulldog. But the 4 month old female great dane and the 2yr old male english bulldog don't get along that well. What can I do to stop them from fighting with each other?

A. Are they really fighting or is the older dog just putting the puppy in its place? If it is true fighting one of them would receive some serious wounds. It's more likely that the older dog is teaching the puppy what behavior it will accepted and what behavior it won't put up with. If this is the case it is best left for the dogs to settle among themselves. There is a pecking order that must strickly left up to them. I have 2 9 yr. old dogs and a German Sheppard Pup about 15 months old and the two older dogs will put up with some of the puppy play but when she gets too rough they will take her down. She hasn't respected the pecking order and she gets in trouble all the time. Althought it does sound like they are killing her they are… [cont.]

A. The company that makes this product, "Reckitt Benckiser" has it's orgins in England, going back to 1814. A series of mergers, joint ventures and partnerships got them involved in household cleaning supplies, including a merger with the Mason Brothers to form the "Chiswick Polish Company" in 1913. In 1990, they aquired "Boyle-Midway", an American company that produced Woolite, Easy-Off, Sani-Flush, Wizard and Old English brands. The "Old English" line of products was invented by Mr. Lee Expert between 1964 and 1978 when he worked for Boyle-Midway (also knows as American Home Products) So...about the oldest it could be is about 40 years old. I know it looks older!

A. Looks like that's a tough answer. I've attached a couple links. The first indicates that because it was drawn free-hand by Opie Ortiz, there isn't a font or typeface that can be downloaded. The second link referrences Opie and the tattoo itself. Hope this helps. You might have to visit a tattoo parlor and ask one of the artists for more insight...

What brush,s are best used on an old english sheep dog?
Q. my old english sheep dog is a year old now, but am having trouble keeping his fur from getting matted, does anyone have any ideas on what brush to use and where to get one from ?
Asked by north wales chap - Tue Oct 2 09:00:02 2007 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Horrified by some of the answers you have received - obviously from people who have no idea of the breed! Here's a helpful site: My friend who used to breed/show OES always used a "human" hair brush, Mason- Pearson which is natural bristle not synthetic & so doesn't split the hair. To keep him knot -free, you really need a comb to tease out the small knots before they start getting too big to do anything with. At 1 year he is at his worst for grooming because his adult coat is coming through but he still has his puppy coat too. It will get better - in a year or so!

Does anyone know the translation from old english to today's english of the Declaration of Independence?
Q. I would like to know the translation from old english to modern day english of the Declaration of Independence. Could someone help me. I would like to know really what it is talking about, like the Statement of human rights's. Could someone translate it for me?

A. The Declaration of Independence was NOT written in Old English. Old English stopped being spoken by 1100, and the language began to resemble modern English by the 1300s, when Chaucer wrote his Canterbury Tales (that was Middle English). You'll even struggle reading Sumer Is Icumen In. Trust me, the Declaration of Independence uses only language we speak today, if you don't understand a word, search it in the dictionary, those words are still used today, plus it'll enrich your vocabulary. Here's an example of real Old English, this is the Charter of King Cnut from around 1020 AD, actually around when Old English began to evolve towards Middle English. Cnut cyning gret his arcebiscopas and his leod-biscopas and Thurcyl eorl and ealle his… [cont.]

How to housebreak a "difficult" Old English Sheepdog pup?
Q. We have an Old English Sheepdog (OES) pup who is just a little more than 4-months old. We also have two other full grown dogs. The puppy has been with us for about a month but we have had no luck housebreaking her. We leave her crated while we are at work which she does great with ( not one mess). However when she is out of the crate, she will pee on the floor if she isn't being constantly monitored. This morning I took her out 5 times in less than an hour and she peed each time! We live in the deep south (her hair is shaved short). I don't know if it is too hot outside or what the problem is but I am tired of cleaning up her pee all over the house! With our other two dogs, we rewarded them with dog biscuits when they went outside… [cont.]

A. It sounds like you are doing the right things. I would expect a young puppy to pee if not constantly watched -- unfortunately! I think you'll just have to keep the pup in her crate unless you are constantly watching her. The more times you catch her before she pees, or catch her in the act and quickly bring her outside, the more reliable she will become. Since you say she won't pee in the crate, this will be your greatest tool. Short periods in the crate followed by walks outside should do the trick. Since she is four months and you said you've had her for a month, do you know anything about her life before coming to you? Was she paper trained? Did they try to housetrain her at all? Her previous owners/trainers might account for… [cont.]

A. the Mastiff,(no English in the name) is larger, weighing anything up to 18 stone, they have longer muzzles, and rarely attack, their job is to keep at bay, (I think maybe the drool would keep most away haha, ask my visitors) a bullmastiff,if I remember correctly was bred by the gamekeepers of large estate to track and hold poachers, they are smaller have shorter muzzles, and are more athletic,if bred and reared correctly both breeds have fantastic temperaments, and are very steady animals if trained.probably not the bets for obedience work as they are too slow at the turns, sits etc,not to say they will not do this but in their own time, Wendy

A. Actually, if you use a font face, and you don't have it downloaded, it is probably a bad font to use. Because a user cannot use the font unless they have it downloaded on your computer. If you absolutely must use the font, you could consider making it an image, but that would most likely be an extremely bad idea because: 1. The website would be unreadable by people with text-only browsers. (There are ways around this) 2. The website would be unreadable by robots like search engine crawlers, which would make it difficult for people to find your site. (Ways around this too) 3. This is the biggy: Users couldn't select text, or search text, or whatever. But, anyway, I usually use CSS instead of plain HTML to put font on a site, so I don't… [cont.]

A. The first poster made the mistake of assuming the Early Modern English is Old English. For true Old English words (good luck writing a whole book in that, it's like learning a foreign language, you'd have an easier time learning Dutch), go to this link.

A. I think the answer is simple - through usage (which tends to 'laziness', as evidenced by much of the English typed here). By the way, it should be 'Why has Old English lost the inflections?' (You are obviously not English, so I point it out to help you learn! English has a very difficult word order when it comes to auxilliary verbs and past tenses!)
