A. A clean Bill of Lading is a negotiable instrument. It serves as the "Title" to the goods being shipped. The consequences of it being wrong all come back to the issuer. As an individual employee he's in the clear unless he engages in fraud. Richard

Q. Original Straight Bill of Lading requires endorsement or not?
Asked by Kalaipandian - Mon Jul 27 01:27:23 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. When the consignee takes possession of the product, they sign the bill of lading. If you have a bill of lading with a signature and no other writing, that is considered a 'clean' bill of lading - this means the company that you delivered the product to took the product and there were no problems with it. If there is damage to the product or missing product, they will note that on the bill of lading when they sign it. Yes - for legal purposes, the bill of lading must be signed by the person receiving the product. If it is not signed, the receiver can come back and say they never received the product or they can say it was damaged when it wasn't. ~Jeanne

What is the difference between a sea waybill and a bill of lading?
Q. What is the difference between a sea waybill and a bill of lading? What is the reason for some carrier to issue a sea waybill than a bill of lading? Besides cost of the document, what is the effect on the shipper and consignee ? Is a sea waybill as good as a bill of lading? To NY Day, thanks! I supposed so long as I check the info on the bill correctly, it is fine. I handle import/export too but hey, this is the first time they issue me a sea waybill and I am stumped! Cheerio!
Asked by melvin jr - Mon Aug 25 23:57:14 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It mostly has to do with the customer's preference. it also can depend on the way the items were transported. Straight Bill of ladings are usually rail loads and are accompanied by pod's. Sea way bill usually comes from the dock. different pod's are required. There should be neither a negative or positive effect on either the shipper or the consignee unless the information listed is inaccurate. Both of them are equally acceptable.

A. A Bill Of Lading is a negotiable instrument which enables the holder to get delivery of goods. Delivery is made upon surrending the BL to the shipping company. The Delivey Order is issued after the BL is surrendered and not in the absence of the BL. The consignee may submit an indemnity Bond to the shipping company to get the D.O.. However the B/L would have to be produced in due course
